A Learner Bike at Circuits
Small Suzukis fill novice track sessions because they are cheap, forgiving and nearly indestructible. Preparing one properly costs very little and makes the day considerably smoother.
Twenty-Five Horsepower
From a 248 cc parallel twin. The GSX250R was never intended to be quick and it is unusually good at teaching a rider to carry momentum.
What Comes Off First
Mirrors, indicators, plate and stand. The switch is mounted on the stand bracket and leaves with it, and the bike then refuses to run in gear.
Restoring the Signal
This unit supplies the closed circuit the ECU expects. The engine starts and runs and the display shows nothing about the missing component.
Built in China
Suzuki assembles the GSX250R at a joint venture plant, which is how it reaches the price it does. The build quality has been considerably better than sceptics expected.
Four Model Years
The fitment covers 2017 to 2020. Suzuki has left the electrical architecture unchanged across the run.
Five Minutes
One plug near the swingarm pivot. It is the simplest job on any preparation list and it needs no tools worth mentioning.
Nothing Cut
Suzuki's own connector is used. The switch refits whenever the stand does, which is generally when the bike goes back on the road.
Not a Street Modification
On a registered motorcycle that still has a stand, the interlock is doing a job. It should stay connected.
Cheap to Run
Tyres last a season, fuel consumption is negligible and nothing on the bike is expensive to replace. A GSX250R makes track days affordable for people who could not otherwise justify them, and that is a considerable achievement for a motorcycle nobody writes about.
