Bodywork, Same Head
The Fazer differs from the naked FZ8 by a half fairing and a screen. Underneath, the engine and its emissions plumbing are identical and take the same cover.
Sealed Properly
The gasket is included because the location demands one. Improvised sealant beside an exhaust port does not survive the heat for more than a few weeks.
What Is Being Closed
Two galleries carrying fresh air from a reed valve into the exhaust ports. The plate seals them at the head, which is the only place that actually stops the flow.
A Useful Motorcycle
Enough fairing to keep the wind off on a motorway and enough engine to make a mountain road worthwhile. The Fazer is the version of the FZ8 that makes sense.
Seven Hundred and Seventy-Nine Cubic Centimetres
A short-stroke R1 four detuned for midrange. It makes 106 horsepower and it is considerably more flexible than the specification suggests.
Flat Under Heat
Machined aluminium keeps its sealing face where pressed metal moves. On a surface bolted to a cylinder head that is the whole specification.
Type Approval
Removing emissions hardware takes the bike outside its registration. This is a track modification wherever those rules are enforced.
Cleaner Readings
With the air supply closed, the oxygen sensor reads combustion rather than combustion plus injection. Any dyno work afterwards starts from an honest baseline.
Reversible
The factory cover goes back with its own gasket whenever the motorcycle needs to return to standard.
Between Two Better-Known Bikes
The Fazer sat between the FZ6 and the FZ1 and cost about the same as either, which is why it sold poorly and why it is now inexpensive. The engine is a short-stroke R1 unit and it has proved every bit as durable.
