The JP ESR 007 answers the front electronic suspension circuit on the Streetfighter V4 when the semi-active fork has been replaced with conventional cartridges.

Counter-Rotating Crank
The MotoGP-derived arrangement makes the Streetfighter change direction with an ease its power figure gives no hint of. It is the cleverest thing about the motorcycle.
Why the Circuit Complains
Ducati's suspension controller expects to find a stepper motor and a position sensor on every leg it manages. Fit conventional units and it finds neither, so it reports a fault and puts the electronics into a limp state.
The Limp Mode Problem
A suspension fault does not only light the panel. On several models the controller withholds riding modes and drops the electronics to a default state, which is not what anybody wants at a circuit.
How the Controller Checks
It looks for the resistance of a stepper winding and, on some models, a position feedback line. Both have to fall inside a window before the system reports itself healthy.
What Semi-Active Suspension Does
It reads wheel speed, throttle, brake pressure and travel, then adjusts damping many times a second. The hardware that makes that possible is a stepper motor sitting on top of a conventional cartridge.
The Stepper Motor
It sits on top of the cartridge and turns a needle against a seat, changing the damping orifice. Remove it and the controller loses the only thing it was actually managing.
What Is Actually Being Replaced
A semi-active leg is a conventional cartridge with a stepper motor on top and, on some models, a travel sensor alongside. The hydraulics underneath are ordinary and the electronics are what make it expensive.
What Semi-Active Actually Costs to Own
A stepper motor, a position sensor and a controller sit on top of hydraulics that are otherwise conventional. When any of that fails outside warranty the bill is a substantial fraction of a complete conventional cartridge set, and the conventional set can then be revalved by anybody competent rather than only by the manufacturer.
