DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ABSA 001 takes the Tuareg 660's ABS unit out of the brake circuit and keeps the panel clean.

- Standard parts refit at any time
A Warning Worth Repeating
Anti-lock braking saves riders from a locked front wheel on a surface they misread. Removing it is a competition decision and it should be made deliberately.
Rally Rather Than Road
Tuaregs entered in cross-country events run without ABS because the regulations allow it and because a rider on loose ground wants the rear wheel locked on demand.
Two Kilograms and the Plumbing
The modulator, the pump and the additional lines all leave. On a bike carrying fuel, tools and spares for a week, every removal compounds.
Aprilia's Off-Road Twin
A twenty-one inch front, 240 millimetres of travel and a 659 cc parallel twin. The Tuareg is a genuine off-road motorcycle with a registration document.
Switchable Was Not Enough
The standard system can be turned off at the rear, and it returns at the next ignition cycle. For a competition bike that is exactly the wrong behaviour.
The Controller Objects
Wheel speed and modulator health are monitored continuously. An absent unit produces a permanent warning and a stored fault.
Answering Properly
The emulator responds to the checks rather than suppressing them, so the display carries nothing and nothing is logged.
Eighty Horsepower
Retuned for torque low down rather than for a peak. On difficult ground that is the only part of the powerband that matters.
Reversible
Modulator, lines and brackets refit with nothing modified. The bike returns to standard specification whenever it needs to.
Not for the Road
A registered Tuareg should keep its ABS. On tarmac the system is doing work the rider cannot do.
Made for Distance Off Tarmac
An eighteen litre tank, a screen that works and a seat that survives a full day. Aprilia built the Tuareg for riders crossing difficult ground for a week rather than for a weekend, and the specification reflects that in every detail that costs money.
