On the Ténéré 700, gear changes are often made in heavy off-road boots, with little feel for the lever. A firm, defined shift helps. The Gilles Shiftholder for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 of 2019 to 2025 supports the shift shaft for that purpose. Note: it is not compatible with a quickshifter on the Ténéré 700.

Shifting in off-road boots
Stiff boots dampen what the foot feels, so a gear change that is only slightly vague can leave the rider unsure whether the gear is engaged. A supported shaft gives a clearer, more positive feel through the boot.
Dust, mud and water
Off-road, the area around the shift lever is exposed to dirt and water. The Shiftholder's needle ball bearing sits inside the hard-anodised holder, and the included pinion cover closes the area neatly, so the support keeps working after river crossings and dusty tracks.
Road Approval
No paperwork applies here. Because the Shiftholder only stabilises the shift shaft of the Yamaha TENERE 700 and does not alter the controls or any other approved part of the bike, it needs neither an approval document nor an inspection.

The kit contains the Shiftholder and the parts needed to mount it, plus the fitting instructions. Pinion cover included; the original bolts are reused.
