DescriptionThe whole story▼
This system has no road approval. It removes the pre-muffler entirely, which is what makes 60 per cent of the standard exhaust weight disappear — and what takes the type approval with it. Fitting it to a registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility.
Key Features
- 2.4 kg against the standard 6.0 kg: 3.6 kg and 60 per cent less
- Full titanium link pipe with no pre-muffler
- 3.7 Nm more at 4,150 rpm and 2.3 PS at 7,200 rpm — a gain through the whole rev range
- Grand Prix inspired conical pipes with black-coated outer sleeves
- Sharper sound, matched to the character of the air-cooled twin
- Covers the Monster 797 and two Scrambler 800 variants
- No road approval — circuit use only
Where Sixty Per Cent Comes From
Ducati's standard system on these bikes carries a pre-muffler — a second chamber ahead of the silencer that exists purely to meet noise limits. It is heavy, and it is the single largest contributor to the 6 kg the standard exhaust weighs.
This system deletes it and runs a full titanium link pipe straight through. That is why the saving reaches 3.6 kg on a mid-size air-cooled twin, and it is also precisely why the system cannot be type approved.
Gain Across the Whole Range
Most slip-ons find their gain in one place. This one lifts the curve throughout: 3.7 Nm at 4,150 rpm and 2.3 PS at 7,200. On the 803 cc air-cooled twin, which makes its character below five thousand, the low-rev figure is the one that will be felt.
Three Motorcycles, One Engine
The Monster 797 and the Scrambler 800 share Ducati's air-cooled 803 cc L-twin and a great deal of chassis. The Scrambler Icon Dark and the Scrambler Classic are trim variants of the same machine. All of them take this system.
The conical pipe shape is drawn from Grand Prix practice and gives the tail a classic silhouette that suits the Scrambler's retro intent as much as the Monster's.
What This Means for a Registered Bike
A German inspection will fail a motorcycle whose exhaust has no type approval, and an insurer can take a view on a machine that no longer matches its homologation. On a Monster 797 or a Scrambler used for commuting, that is a disproportionate consequence.
Used at track days or on private land, none of it applies — and 3.6 kg off a mid-size twin is a large change for the money. If you want an Akrapovic on a registered Scrambler, ask us and we will check which type-approved parts exist for your exact model and year.
