DescriptionThe whole story▼
When the S 1000 RR arrived in 2009, it was BMW's first superbike, built with World Superbike racing in mind. Many of the bikes made between 2009 and 2018 have since found a second life: they leave the garage on a trailer, stripped of lights and mirrors and wearing race bodywork, bound for track days and club races. On a machine used like that, the oil filler gets more attention than it ever did on the road. Accossato's FP002 is listed for it: aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised, with an M24x2 thread.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the BMW S 1000 RR, 2009 to 2018
- M24x2 thread according to Accossato
- Made from aluminium on CNC machines, anodised
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Usable on other motorcycles with the same cap size after a check
- Can be paired with Accossato's TS005 front reservoir cap
- No German ABE documented; for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Eight anodised colours are available for the FP002, and they run from quiet to loud: black, silver and titanium for a bike that should look purposeful, gold, red and orange for warmth, blue and green for contrast. Underneath the colour is aluminium, machined on CNC equipment. Accossato specifies an M24x2 thread and states that the cap fits the listed applications as well as other motorcycles with a cap of that size. On a track bike whose filler is opened in dusty paddocks, the care it needs is basic: keep the thread clean and never let grit settle on the sealing face.
A Second Life on the Circuit
Turning a road-registered S 1000 RR into a track bike usually starts with the obvious: lights, mirrors and number plate come off, race fairings go on and the tyres change. The oil routine changes too. At a track day or a club race, the engine spends long stretches at high revs, and the bike is inspected far more often than it ever was on the road. Settle the level at home, reading it exactly as the owner's manual of the S 1000 RR prescribes, so you arrive with nothing to add. In the paddock the filler stays shut while the engine is hot; open it only once the bike has been switched off and has cooled right down. Scrutineers pay close attention to anything that could put oil on the track, so after each session run a finger around the cap and look along the crankcase below it. Many clubs publish a technical checklist for scrutineering, and it is worth reading well before the first event. Whenever the FP002 has been out, clean the thread, turn it back in by hand until it seats and wipe the area dry, so the next look actually tells you something.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP002 for the S 1000 RR from 2009 to 2018. The thread is M24x2, and according to Accossato the cap also fits other motorcycles that take a cap of the same size. Our catalogue also shows it under the S 1000 R, the naked bike built on the same base. For the S 1000 RR, Accossato also offers the TS005 cap for the front brake fluid reservoir, available in every FP002 colour except titanium. Before ordering, compare the thread with the cap in your engine, particularly on a bike with an unknown history.
Road Approval
We know of no ABE or test mark for the FP002, so it is offered here for track days, racing and other competition use.
