Whatever else it is, this element is the one intake decision on a Trofeo ACX Scrambler 525 that can be taken back on a wet afternoon with a screwdriver. Nothing is cut, nothing is rerouted, no map is written, and the item that comes out is a paper panel that goes straight back in unchanged. That deserves saying out loud, because a filter medium is chosen against conditions that may turn out to belong to somebody else — next season, or the next owner.
Key Features
- Direct swap for the series paper panel; the airbox, ducting and mapping are all left alone
- Dry non-woven medium rated at 14 microns, catalogued by Sprint Filter for dusty conditions
- Flow rating of 1,800 l/m²/sec, where the standard woven element in this box is rated 5,050
- Never oiled at any stage, so nothing can migrate downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies
- About twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, pleated into the same space
- Cleaned and refitted rather than replaced, and covered for two years from the purchase date
Keep the panel you take out
Label the original element with the date and the odometer reading and put it on a shelf in a bag. It costs nothing and it does two jobs. It is the reference for what the machine left the factory breathing through, and it is the way back if the riding changes and the flow matters more than the retention. There is a third reason that only shows up later: an intake change that leaves no trace is also an intake change nobody can see. A line in the service book naming the CM251P14 and the date it went in means the next owner inherits a specification rather than a mystery.
Fourteen microns, and what they cost
The finer the medium, the more it retains and the less it flows. That relationship is fixed and it runs in one direction, so 14 microns against the standard 80 buys retention with flow, at roughly a third of the rated throughput. It is a trade made for a purpose, not a step up a ladder. And the honest limit belongs here as well: fitting any element into a standard airbox will not make a Trofeo ACX Scrambler noticeably faster, and a medium built to hold more back is the least likely of them to try. What is genuinely on offer is an intake resistance that stays low and stable between services, and a part that is washed instead of repurchased.
Care and cleaning
In most cases a compressed-air line is all the CM251P14 needs. Point it at the face that looks toward the engine so the dirt is pushed back out the way it arrived, and hold the nozzle at a distance rather than against the material. Damp, stubborn deposits come away with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until clear. What follows is patience: it dries in open air, never with heat, never near a flame, and it is fitted back dry and bare. The Downloads tab holds the maintenance sheet.
