Ask what an owner wants from the intake of a Triumph triple and the answer is usually the noise. This engine has a reputation for the sound it makes when the throttle opens, and the airbox is the first place people go looking for more of it. A Sprint Filter P08 is worth having for other reasons. It is a dry, washable element that takes the factory panel's place and is brought back with an air line instead of replaced; what it is not is a way to change how the machine sounds.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester, never oiled — nothing in the medium can travel downstream onto the sensor or throttle bodies
- 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, the Sprint Filter specification for road and track
- A finer weave holds back more and flows less; that is a trade, not a ranking, and the P08 sits where a road machine wants it
- About double the filtering surface of the usual performance element, inside the standard housing
- Direct replacement in the untouched airbox, so the certified intake geometry stays as it was signed off
- Cleaned and refitted rather than consumed, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
About the intake noise
The sound is made by the box and the tract in front of it: the volume of the airbox, the length and cross-section of the inlet, and the resonances the two set up. None of that moves here. The PM167S occupies the seat the factory panel occupied and changes nothing around it — an element that did alter the note would have to alter the box, and that means leaving the homologated intake behind. The same is worth saying about power, since the two promises usually turn up together: a drop-in filter does not make a standard triple noticeably stronger, whatever a listing claims.
Four names on one line
Sprint Filter puts RS, R, S and a Moto2 name on one line, and the line is honest about what it is — a list of machines that share an airbox. The trim names separate suspension, brakes, instruments and rider aids, and none of them stands in the intake path, so no version of this Street Triple takes a different element or needs one. Read the Moto2 name the same way: here it is an entry in a fitment list, and no claim about racing is being made for the part. What every one of them gets is the same restriction, and more usefully a repeatable one, reset with compressed air instead of climbing towards a service limit.
Care and cleaning
Most services need nothing but an air line held against the clean face of the PM167S, so the dust leaves the way it came in. Where air will not shift it, wash the element in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and rinse clear. Let it dry fully in moving air — never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, because heat ruins polyester — and refit it dry, with nothing applied. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the standard airbox of the Triumph Street Triple RS/R/S /Moto2, 2017 to 2026. Two entries share the PM167S: this one and the Street Triple 660S of the same years. Both appear in the Fitment tab.
