Count an air filter across eleven years of ownership rather than across one invoice and the arithmetic changes completely. A paper element is replaced at every service, and each one spends the second half of its life doing the job slightly worse than the first half, because paper loads and cannot be restored. This element is washed instead and returns to its starting restriction each time. Over the life of an F3 that is the difference between a recurring cost and a single purchase.

What a loaded filter takes from a 675

Not peak power on a dyno sheet — the honest answer is that a drop-in element will not rewrite that. What it takes is the promptness. The engine management meters fuel to the air that actually arrives, so a rising intake restriction does not produce a fault; it produces a slightly softer response high in the rev range, which is exactly where this engine was built to live and exactly where you would notice it least consciously and miss it most.

Care and cleaning
