Sugomi
Kawasaki gave the Z1000's design language a name and built the motorcycle around it: the crouched stance, the four stub exhausts, the headlight that looks like it is about to do something. It divided opinion completely, which was clearly the intention, and it sold well to the half that liked it.
Fifteen Years on One Part
The fitment spans from the 2010 redesign to the end of the line. Kawasaki restyled the bike twice in that period without changing the handlebar architecture, which is why one switch covers machines that look quite different from each other.
A Naked Bike Shows Its Controls
With no fairing the cockpit is fully visible and forms a large part of how the motorcycle reads. The standard moulded switch is functional and looks it, and on a bike whose entire appeal is its appearance that is a more pointed criticism than it would be elsewhere.
Weather Straight to the Bar
No screen means rain arrives at the switchgear at road speed. The elements inside this housing are sealed and the body is milled from one piece, so there is no moulded seam to let water in over a decade of use.
Either Clamp Geometry
The universal plate takes both bolt arrangements, so a later brake upgrade does not require the switch to be reconsidered.
Fitted With the Rest of the Cockpit
Bar ends, levers and mirrors occupy the same short stretch of handlebar, and doing them as one job saves dismantling the area twice. On a Z1000, where the cockpit is the most looked-at part of the bike, owners generally plan the whole thing rather than changing one component at a time.
