The JP ES 005 is what an owner fits to the Panigale 899 when the reeds in the secondary air housing have cracked, which happens with heat cycles rather than mileage.

Eight Hundred and Ninety-Eight Cubic Centimetres
The smaller Superquadro, making a hundred and forty-eight horsepower. It was Ducati's answer to the supersport class and considerably quicker than one.
Not the Electrical Half
The controller monitors its solenoid regardless of what is bolted to the head, so the circuit still needs its own eliminator to keep the panel clear.
The Hose Port Stays Open
Removing the housing leaves an opening at the airbox unless that end is closed too, and unfiltered air into an intake is worse than the system ever was.
Where Owners Go Wrong
Overtightening into an aluminium head, which converts a twenty-minute job into a thread repair and a considerably longer afternoon.
Doing It With the Head On
Nothing requires the engine to be opened. The housing bolts to an external face and the cover replaces it in the same position.
Sold Separately
Some owners want the fault gone and nothing else. Ducati's split arrangement lets them stop there without leaving anything mechanically wrong.
Access Is the Real Cost
The part itself takes twenty minutes. Getting the tank and frequently the airbox out of the way is what fills the evening, which is the whole argument for doing the electrical half in the same session rather than paying for the same access twice.
A Second-Hand Ducati With Plastic Housings
On a machine of ten years or more the housings are original unless somebody has already been in there, and their condition is a fair guide to how the motorcycle was stored. A housing that has gone chalky has been through more heat cycles than the odometer suggests.
