DescriptionThe whole story

The JP ES 018 A closes the M1000RR's airbox where the secondary air hose used to attach.

Key Features

  • BMW M1000RR (2020–2026)
  • Closes the secondary air port in the airbox
  • Machined from solid aluminium
  • O-ring sealed against the airbox wall
  • Needed once the hose has been removed
  • Standard fitting refits at any time

A Hole in a Tuned Volume

The airbox is part of the intake tract rather than a filter housing. Leaving the secondary air port open changes what the engine breathes and lets in what the filter was stopping.

Titanium Rods and a Lighter Crank

BMW's M engine specification is a homologation build sold to the public. Everything inside it was chosen for a race and the intake side is no exception.

Machined to Suit

A turned aluminium plug with an O-ring, which is the only finish that belongs on a motorcycle assembled from race components.

Winglets That Are Measured

BMW quotes downforce figures at speed rather than making a styling claim. The aerodynamic package came from the same programme as the engine.

Carbon Wheels as Standard

Not an option on the M1000RR. Removing rotating mass at that radius is the most effective single change available to any motorcycle.

Fitted With the Head Cover

Both halves of the deletion need the tank off. Doing them in one session is the difference between a two-hour job and two evenings.

Built to Satisfy a Rule

World Superbike requires a road model, and the M1000RR is it. That is why a machine this focused is sold with lights and a warranty.

Nothing Improvised

Tape and rubber caps both fail under heat and pressure cycling, generally without anybody noticing until the filter is next inspected.

Reversible

The original hose and fitting go back whenever the standard arrangement does.

Competition Use

Removing emissions equipment ends road legality where the system forms part of the approval.

A Hundred and Ninety-Two Kilograms

Wet, with carbon wheels and a titanium exhaust. BMW spent a great deal of money reaching that figure, which is why leaving an unsealed opening in the intake would be an odd way to finish the job.
