DescriptionThe whole story▼

Engine covers are the cheapest insurance on a track-day ZX-10R and the one most people skip until the first time they need them. A crash that would otherwise have cost a set of fairings becomes an oil-down, a red flag and a rebuilt crankcase the moment a cover splits. CP012 is the full Bonamici Racing protection kit for the ZX-10R: both sides covered, screws and spacers supplied, nothing left to source separately.

Key Features

  • Complete kit — the right-hand pick-up side and the left-hand alternator side are both protected, which is the combination that matters because a bike can go down either way.
  • Machined from solid high-strength aluminium alloy, not moulded from plastic or composite.
  • Good heat dissipation, which is the argument for aluminium over a polymer guard: the part conducts engine heat away instead of trapping it against the case.
  • Supplied with the screws and spacers needed to fit it — no trip to a fastener supplier before installation.
  • Bonamici Racing, made in Italy. Part number CP012.

What an Oil-Down Actually Costs

A cracked engine cover does not just end your session. It ends everyone's session, because oil on the racing line has to be cleaned before anyone goes back out. Most organisers charge for it, many clubs will send you home, and your own bike is on a trailer either way. Set against that, a protection kit is a one-off cost that pays for itself the first time the bike slides rather than tumbles.

Aluminium Versus Plastic

Slider-style plastic covers work by sacrificing themselves, which is fine until the impact is hard enough to push the remains into the case. A machined aluminium guard spreads the load across the mounting points and keeps its shape through the slide. It also lives permanently on the bike without cooking, because it moves heat rather than insulating it — the reason Bonamici makes the point about heat dissipation explicitly.

Fitment and Compatibility

The manufacturer lists CP012 for:

  • Kawasaki ZX-10 R — model years 2011 through 2026

The same kit spans three generations of the model, which is unusual and worth knowing if you run more than one ZX-10R.

Road Approval

No ABE or EC type-approval is published for this kit and none is supplied. Engine covers are not normally a registration issue in Germany, but Bonamici issues no paperwork for them.
