DescriptionThe whole story▼
An hour and three quarters. That is what Akrapovic quotes for fitting this system, and it is the longest of any CRF250R exhaust in the catalogue — a full 45 minutes more than the machines that came after it. On a bike that goes back on the bench after every meeting, that is worth knowing before the box is opened.
Key Features
- Titanium throughout, with a coated silencer outer sleeve
- 3.6 kg where the standard system weighs 4.2
- Peak output of 35.5 PS, read at 11,050 rpm
- Torque of 25.2 Nm, with the gain arriving at 7,900 rpm
- Removable noise insert supplied
- Meets FIM noise limits, with a welded bracket and a titanium end cap
- Closed course competition use only
The Coating Is New Here
Akrapovic notes for this system that the silencer outer sleeve carries a new coating for better scratch resistance and easier cleaning. That is a motocross answer to a motocross problem: a titanium can spends its life in roost, and bare titanium marks.
The coating does not make it invincible. It makes the difference between a pressure washer and a wire brush at the end of a wet meeting, which over a season is the difference that matters.
Six Hundred Grams, and Nothing Inflated
4.2 kg standard down to 3.6. Fourteen per cent, and it is the smallest saving of any Evolution Line Honda has needed for this bike. That is not a criticism of the system — it is a fact about the 2014 machine, which already left the factory with a comparatively light exhaust.
The later twin-silencer CRF250R carried 5.4 kg of standard exhaust, so the Evolution Line for that generation could take a third off. Here there was simply less to remove, and quoting a bigger number would mean quoting the wrong one.
Two Different Engine Speeds
Peak power is read at 11,050 rpm and the torque gain at 7,900. Those are far apart, and that spread is the useful part: the system does something for the middle of the range as well as the top, rather than only sharpening what was already there.
1.1 Nm at just under eight thousand revs on a 250 four-stroke is drive out of a rut, not a dyno headline.
An Insert Is Included
Akrapovic records a removable noise insert for this system, and states that the exhaust meets FIM noise limits. Between them, those two facts cover most of what a club or national meeting will ask of a bike at scrutineering.
A Welded Bracket
Akrapovic specifies a more durable welded bracket rather than a bolted one. On a road bike that would be a footnote. On a motocross machine, the silencer mount is one of the parts that actually fails, and a welded joint has nothing to work loose.
The Oldest CRF250R in the Range
Akrapovic still lists systems for four generations of this motorcycle, and 2014 is the earliest. A CRF250R of that age is a club bike, a practice bike or a project, and the case for a titanium exhaust on one is about how it runs rather than what it is worth.
Road Approval
None. For closed course competition use only. Not intended for street use.
