DescriptionThe whole story▼
The rear brake of a touring motorcycle lives in the worst place on the machine. Spray comes straight off the wheel onto it, salt settles on the caliper all winter, and the pedal is pressed by a boot that has been through hours of wet dual carriageway. Accossato's answer is the AGPA92 pad in the Sintered (ST) compound for the BMW R 1250 RT of 2019 to 2024, a material the firm says holds its grip cold or hot and keeps its footing when the disc is wet.
Key Features
- AGPA92ST: rear pads on the AGPA92 plate in the Sintered (ST) compound
- Listed for the BMW R 1250 RT from 2019 to 2024, RT Sport of 2019 and 2020 included
- Accossato points to steady grip at both ends of the temperature range and on a wet disc
- Suits riders who use the RT through the whole year, not only in July
- One caliper at the rear, one box of two pads
- Sister numbers offer the OR, EV1, EV2 and ZXC materials on the same plate
- The front of the machine is covered by the AGPA252
- No German ABE on file; supplied for circuit and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
The AGPA92 exists in several materials and this article number wears the sintered one. Accossato's description of it is compact: the level of grip is high and it stays where it is, at low temperatures as much as high ones, and water on the disc alters little. For a rear brake those are practical properties rather than exciting ones. The rear disc is the first part of a bike to get dirty and the last to warm up, and a material that needs no coaxing gives the same small, measured answer on a frozen January morning as it does in August traffic. Pads of this type also wear down slowly, which keeps the caliper off the workbench.
Grit, Salt and the First Touch
Anyone who keeps an RT on the road through the winter learns what the rear wheel throws at its own brake. Water carries grit onto the disc, the film of salt and road dressing dries onto everything behind the swingarm, and by March the caliper is wearing a crust. None of that stops a brake working, but it changes how you look after it. Wash the back of the bike when the weather has been foul, keep the pedal moving so its pivot does not seize, and clean around the pistons before you push them back when the wheel is out, because grinding grit into a seal is how a caliper begins to drag. Give the disc face a look as well: a rear disc run on pads that were finished gets scored in a hurry, and an R 1250 RT is heavy enough that you want both ends pulling their weight. After any pad change, press the pedal several times, until it has come back to a firm stop, before you ride away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato shows the AGPA92 at the rear of the R 1250 RT for 2019 through 2024, and the RT Sport built in 2019 and 2020 sits under the same heading. A single caliper slows that wheel, so one box completes the work, and the pair inside is replaced as a pair. The AGPA252 covers the front over the identical span, the DK006 is the disc listed for this bike, and four further materials exist on the AGPA92 plate should your riding call for something different.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been issued to us for the AGPA92ST and we hold no test certificate for it. We therefore describe it as a pad for racing and closed-course riding rather than for public traffic.
Scope of Delivery
