DescriptionThe whole story▼
For a great many riders the Panigale 959 was the first superbike in the garage, and a first superbike brings a set of jobs that a middleweight never demanded. Oil is the most frequent of them. It is also the one that teaches a new owner most about the machine, because doing it calmly, in the right order, turns an intimidating red object into something you understand. Accossato's FP004 is the aluminium filler cap for that engine, CNC-machined with an M20x2.5 thread and anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale 959, 2016 to 2019
- Accossato also names the Corse versions of 2018 and 2019
- M20x2.5 thread, the size stated by Accossato
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised in the colour you choose
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Usable on other machines with the same filler thread
- Companion caps FP007, TS003 and TS012 for this bike
- No German ABE available; listed for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
What Accossato publishes about the FP004 is short and useful: aluminium, CNC machining, an anodised finish and the thread size M20x2.5. That last figure is the one to check against your machine, and the maker adds that any motorcycle whose filler takes the same size can use the cap. Anodising gives the eight colours their depth, and because the process colours the metal itself, the shade does not chip away at the grip ribs. Silver, titanium and black sit quietly on a Panigale 959, while red, gold, orange, blue or green turn the filler into one of the things people notice when the bike is on its stand.
A First Superbike and Its First Oil Check
Do it when there is no hurry. The engine must be cold, which in practice means the morning after a ride rather than the hour after it, and the machine must be held in the position the owner's manual describes while the level is read. Learn that position once and use it every time; a reading taken with the bike leaning is not a reading at all. Wipe the area around the filler before opening it, because whatever is lying there goes inside the moment the cap comes away, and an engine of this kind deserves better. Check the thread and the sealing face for grit. If oil is needed, add it a little at a time and look again between each addition, using the grade the manual names rather than whatever is on the shelf. The FP004 goes back in by hand, turned until it is seated and then left alone; there is nothing to be gained by leaning on it. Look under the Panigale 959 after the next ride to confirm the area is dry, and write the date somewhere. That habit is the beginning of a service history.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP004 for the Panigale 959 from 2016 to 2019, with the Corse variants of 2018 and 2019 named in its own application list. The fit follows the M20x2.5 thread, so machines beyond that list can be served if their filler matches, and we also show the cap for the Monster 795, the Hypermotard 950 SP and the Diavel. Anyone with a non-standard engine cover should measure before ordering. The 959 is additionally covered by the FP007 clutch cover and by the TS003 and TS012 reservoir caps.
Road Approval
An ABE or comparable test document for the FP004 has never reached us, so the part is offered exclusively for racing and competition.
