DescriptionThe whole story▼
BMW's HP label stands for High Performance, and the HP4 was the RR for riders who intended to use that performance on a circuit. Accossato comes from the same world. The company from Turin started in 1969 as a manufacturer of competition motorcycles and won an enduro world title in 1985; today its brake components draw on experience from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The EDF022 is its CNC-machined brake lever for the HP4's original master cylinder, listed by Accossato for bikes from 2012 to 2016.
Key Features
- Mounts on the HP4's original BMW front brake master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable on the lever
- Blade lengths: short, standard (about 138 mm) and long
- Machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Seven blade colours to choose from
- Fixed construction with no folding joint
- Each lever comes in its own box
- No German ABE documented, intended for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato does not cast its levers. The EDF022 is cut from solid aluminium on CNC machines in the company's plant in Piedmont and anodised afterwards, the hub in black and the blade in the colour you order. Machining from the solid gives an even wall thickness and a surface that looks the same from one lever to the next. A fixed lever consists of one continuous blade, so it feels the same in the last lap of a session as in the first, without a hinge that could loosen after a few track days.
Built for Track Days
On a circuit, many riders brake with two fingers, and that is where the short blade earns its place: it ends before the ring and little finger, so they stay on the throttle and are never pinched against the grip in a hard stop. The adjustable reach lets you move the blade to suit the race gloves you wear on track. If your HP4 still wears BMW's white, blue and red Motorsport colours, the blue or red blade picks them up; if you would rather keep the cockpit dark, the black version disappears into the hub.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF022 for the HP4 from 2012 to 2016. The same reference is used for the S1000RR and S1000R of that era, which tells you that the lever mounting on the master cylinder is shared across BMW's superbike family of the time. Blue, green, orange and gold blades are available in all three lengths, silver in standard and short, while black and red are made as standard levers only.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for this lever, and it is sold for circuit use.
