Most of what previous owners did to a fifteen-year-old supersport cannot be undone. Drilled panels stay drilled, cut looms stay cut, a lopped exhaust hanger does not grow back. The airbox is the rare exception, and PM46S is the reason: fitting a Sprint Filter here is the same physical act as putting the intake back to standard, because the element goes into the original housing in the original position with nothing altered around it. Upgrade and restore are one operation. If the next owner wants the cellulose panel back, that is a screwdriver too.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in one layer, run dry, with no oil used at any stage
- 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec — the road and track specification
- Fibres from ø 22 microns; that is the thread diameter, not the aperture of the weave
- Around twice the working cloth area of a conventional performance element
- Standard airbox, standard fixings, no cutting and no remapping
- Regenerated with compressed air, rated for the life of the bike, two-year guarantee
The reversible change on an irreversible bike
This matters more on this generation than it would on a new machine. A 2007–2020 CBR600RR has usually passed through several hands, and the airbox is the one part of the intake path a buyer can open, look at and put right in an afternoon. A washable element leaves no trace of itself, needs no bracket and asks nothing of the fuelling, so it neither commits the bike to anything nor hides what a previous owner did.
What it is worth, stated plainly
No filter makes a standard 600 stronger; the airbox, ducts and throttle bodies set the limits and the cloth is the last item in that chain. What the P08 offers is a restriction that does not drift. A paper panel is at its best on the day it goes in and worse every day after until it is binned; a washed weave returns to its own baseline, so the engine works against a figure that stays inside a narrow band across the years. Sprint Filter measures its weave at 93.13 % retention of 100-micron particles against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton, and does it dry. The same box is also listed with the racing PM46S F1-85 at 85 µm and 15,000 l/m²/sec: coarser and faster, the same trade taken the other way — less held back, more passed through, and no rank between them.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean face outward is the routine, so deposits leave by the way they came. Where a track season leaves more than air will shift, wash PM46S in warm water with a mild dish soap and rinse until the water runs clear. No heat: not a hairdryer, not an exhaust, not a flame. Dry it in still air and refit it dry, with nothing applied to the cloth. Sprint Filter’s maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
PM46S is listed for the Honda CBR600RR built from 2007 to 2020 — one machine on this reference. The catalogue holds separate entries for the later CBR600RR, so read the year on the registration document rather than the badge on the tail, and check it against the compatibility list on this page before ordering.
