Two Model Years
Ducati built the 959 briefly before the V2 replaced it, which makes used examples less common than the 899's and rather better regarded.
Nothing Is Cut
It goes into the loom's own connector where the tail unit was, so the wiring stays factory. That is what makes the change reversible in the time it takes to reach the connector.
The Alternative Costs More
A resistor spliced into the loom works until the splice corrodes, and then the fault it was hiding comes back at an inconvenient moment.
Keep the Original Parts
The tail unit and its fasteners go back on together, and having them bagged is what turns an inspection or a sale into a straightforward conversation.
Where the Heat Goes
The resistance converts the missing current into warmth, which is why the unit belongs where air can reach it rather than pressed against a plastic panel.
Sealed as a Unit
Everything electrical inside is potted, so water and vibration have nothing to attack. Under a seat unit that is the difference between one season and several.
Mounting Away From the Loom
The body warms in use, so it belongs tied where air reaches it and away from the wiring it sits next to. That is the only part of the fitting worth thinking about.
A Warning That Hides Others
The practical cost of leaving it lit is not the light itself but what sits behind it. A machine with a permanent lighting warning gives no clear signal when something else appears, and on a fast road that is the wrong trade for the sake of a connector.
