What a Back Support Actually Does
The back stop is the part riders underestimate. Under hard braking a rider is decelerating their own body mass as well as the motorcycle's, and the arms are a poor way to do it — pushing against the bars while trying to feel what the front tyre is doing is exactly the conflict that makes braking feel vague. A stop in the right place lets the rider brace with their lower back and legs instead, which frees the arms to be light on the bars. Wrong place and it does nothing, or it catches the rider before they have finished moving back. That position is body-specific, which is why it is a made-to-measure item rather than a size option.
One Bike, Two Riders
The catch with a made-to-measure seat arrives when the machine is shared. A foam built around one rider's dimensions actively works against a second rider of a different build, and swapping foams between sessions is a five-minute job that nobody remembers to do under pressure. Teams that run a shared bike usually keep a STANDARD unit as the common foam and give the made-to-measure one to whoever is racing that weekend. Both use the same plate, so the change itself is trivial — it is remembering it that is hard.

Because the unit is built to the rider rather than to the bike, the order needs the rider's figures. Inside leg and torso length are the usual starting points, along with where the rider naturally settles relative to the tank on whatever seat is on the machine now.
