DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Ducati Monster 796 belongs to the air-cooled line of Monsters: light, narrow and easy to ride, which is why so many owners take one to their first track day. Accossato lists the FC104 for the Monster 796 from 2010 to 2015. It is a quick-release cap produced entirely from aluminium on CNC machines, closed by a pawl with a pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold. As a track part it suits the occasion, because a first day on circuit is when many riders start to look at their bike differently.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati Monster 796, listed 2010 to 2015
- CNC-machined, aluminium throughout
- Quick-closing pawl for opening and closing the tank quickly
- Pin available in six colours
- Pawl can be replaced separately
- Part number FC104
- No German ABE documented; closed-circuit use
Construction and Material Quality
The FC104 is a straightforward part, which suits a straightforward bike. Accossato mills it entirely from aluminium and describes it as robust and durable. A quick-closing pawl allows quick opening and closing, the pin on that pawl can be ordered in six colours, and the pawl can be replaced on its own if it is damaged. The styling is new, attractive in Accossato's own words, and on the tank of an air-cooled Monster a machined cap makes a neat contrast.
A First Track Day on an Air-Cooled Monster
Preparing a Monster 796 for its first track day is mostly simple. Tape over the headlight and indicators, remove or fold the mirrors, check the tyres and brake pads, and make sure nothing is leaking. The fuel cap belongs on that list as well. If the bike travels to the circuit in a van, you can fit the Accossato cap at home the evening before, with the engine cold, and check the next morning that the filler is dry. If you ride there, swap caps in the paddock once the engine has cooled. Arrive with a sensible amount of fuel rather than a brimmed tank and bring a can for lunchtime. Listen to the briefing, ride the first session well within your limits and use the breaks to drink water and look over the bike. At the end of the day, let it cool before the original cap goes back on.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the Monster 796 from 2010 to 2015 for the FC104. The same cap is listed with us for other Monsters, among them the 821 and the 1200, and for the SuperSport 950. Please check your bike against the list before ordering.
Road Approval
The FC104 has neither a German ABE nor an expert report on record, so its use is on the track. Road bikes usually leave the factory with a cap that locks, and the Monster 796 should wear its original for public roads.
