DescriptionThe whole story▼
Superbikes are geared for speed, and the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade is no exception: first gear alone reaches speeds well beyond most road limits. What that means at the other end of the scale is less obvious until you try to pull away briskly from a standstill, or ride slowly through a paddock. The clutch has to slip for longer, and the left hand has to control it. Accossato's ESY688H is a clutch lever for the RR-R of 2020 to 2024, machined from aluminium, with adjustable reach and a blade in three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, 2020 to 2024
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable to the hand
- Long blade for a lighter pull; short blade for two fingers
- Standard length approximately 138 mm
- Blade anodised in seven colours, hub black
- Machined aluminium, rigid one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688H is shaped on CNC machines from aluminium and anodised in two tones, a black hub and a coloured blade. The hub holds the pivot and the adjuster that sets the distance to the grip, and the blade is fixed firmly to it, with nothing that folds or flexes along its length. When the clutch has to be held in its friction zone for longer than usual, as it often does on the RR-R, that rigidity gives your fingers a stable reference point.
Tall First Gear, Long Slip
With tall gearing, the engine has little leverage over the rear wheel at very low speeds, so pulling away cleanly needs a few more revs and a longer, smoother slip of the clutch than on a typical road bike. Let the lever out too quickly and the engine bogs down or stalls; hold it too long at high revs and you wear the plates. The skill lies in between: a steady engine speed and a lever that travels out gradually through the friction zone until the bike is rolling properly. The same applies at walking pace in the pit lane or paddock, where you may be slipping the clutch for many metres. All of this is far easier with a lever you can hold at the bite point without strain. Set the ESY688H so that the friction zone lies where your fingers are comfortably curled, and consider the long blade, which reduces the pull and makes a long slip less tiring. The RR-R asks for precise clutch work only at low speed, but there it asks for plenty.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688H for the CBR1000RR-R from 2020 to 2024 and fits it at the original clutch mounting. For the brake lever, its list gives the EDF011 for the 2020 and 2021 bikes. The ESY688H also appears on Accossato's list for the earlier CBR1000RR of 2008 to 2019.
Road Approval
The ESY688H is sold for track use, because there is no documented German ABE for it.
