DescriptionThe whole story▼
Honda revised the CB500F for 2022, and from 2024 the roadster was sold under a new name, CB500 Hornet. Either way, it is a machine that spends much of its life in towns and on commuting routes, where good braking is less about hard stops than about seeing them coming. The Accossato EDF018 gives these bikes a machined aluminium brake lever for the original master cylinder, with a reach you can set and a blade in three lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Honda CB500F of 2022 to 2024
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance from the grip
- Blade lengths short, standard (about 138 mm) and long
- Black hub; seven blade colours
- Anodised, CNC-machined aluminium
- No folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF018 begins as aluminium stock, is cut to shape by CNC machines and then anodised: black on the hub, which carries the pivot and the reach setting, and the chosen colour on the blade. Nothing on it folds or flexes. The blade is joined rigidly to the hub, which keeps the lever's feel consistent over thousands of stops in traffic, and the anodised surface copes with rain, road dirt and weekly washing without losing its colour.
Reading the Road Ahead
Experienced riders brake less often in towns, not because they ride faster, but because they look further ahead. A bus pulling out, a car nosing out of a side street, a pedestrian near a crossing: each is a reason to roll off early and let the bike slow gently, with the fingers already resting on the lever. That habit, often called covering the brake, only works if the blade is within easy reach without the hand losing its hold on the throttle. On the CB500F, set the EDF018 so that two fingers can rest on it while the others hold the grip, with the wrist straight. Then, when something does happen, the first touch of the brake comes a fraction of a second sooner, and the stop that follows can be gentle rather than sudden. The short blade suits this style, because it clears the fingers that stay on the grip, while the standard length remains the choice for riders who like to brake with the whole hand.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists this lever for the CB500F from 2022 to 2024, a period it groups under the name CB 500 F Hornet, and it mounts on the original master cylinder. For CB500F bikes built from 2013 to 2021, Accossato's list gives a different brake lever, the EDF025, together with the ESH250 clutch lever.
Road Approval
The EDF018 comes without documented German ABE and is sold for track use.
