A road-registered trail bike carries its working environment home with it. Dust raised on a dry forest track does not stay on the track: it settles on the airbox lid and into the side panels, and remains available to the intake long after the tyres are back on tarmac. That is the quiet difference between a CRF250L and a competition machine that is trailered to the dirt. The Sprint Filter PM255ST12 meets it with the finest medium in the range: a dry polyester special non-woven that filters to 7 microns at a rated 560 l/m²/sec.
Key Features
- Dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns — the finest medium Sprint Filter builds
- Rated flow of 560 l/m²/sec, drawn up for off-road riding, desert stages and extreme dust
- Works dry, so there is no oil film that could be pulled towards the throttle body
- Sits in the series airbox where the original element sits: nothing to cut, nothing to remap
- A compressor puts it back into service, so the element stays with the motorcycle
- Guaranteed for twenty-four months from the invoice date
The airbox keeps a supply of its own
An enduro ridden to the trail and home again is never entirely out of dust. Fine material works its way behind the bodywork, and vibration and airflow keep releasing it over the following weeks, so the element is still working on rides that look perfectly clean. Washing the bike adds to it rather than ending it: a lance near the seat and side panels pushes damp grit towards where the intake draws. That is a reason to inspect the element on your own schedule rather than at a kilometre figure — and a cleanable one makes the inspection cheap enough to happen, where paper turns every look into a purchase.
Where the P08 is the better balance
Finer filtration is bought with flow, and the figures state the price: the P08 holds to 80 microns and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec, the P14 to 14 microns at 1,800, this T12 to 7 microns at 560. On a small dual-sport single genuinely out on gravel, the fine end of that scale is where the argument sits: a 250 at road speed is not calling for the airbox's full capacity, and what a coarse weave passes is the fine mineral fraction that reaches the bore. If your CRF250L instead spends most of its year on asphalt with motorway stages between towns, the P08 is the more sensible balance, and taking it is not a downgrade.
Care and cleaning
Dust leaves the way it came in: compressed air on the clean side of the PM255ST12, driven outwards. When a dry summer leaves more behind than air will shift, lukewarm water with a mild detergent finishes the job; rinse until the water runs clear and leave the element in open air until completely dry, because heat and flames ruin the medium. It is refitted dry and untreated — no oil belongs on it at any stage. Sprint Filter designs it to last the life of the motorcycle, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Built for the Honda CRF250L, model years 2021 to 2026. The same element serves three machines in this family; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
