A washable element moves one job from the parts counter to your own bench, and that is worth settling before ordering the finest cloth in the range for a TRK 502. The T12 filters at 7 microns, so it takes a great deal out of the air and holds it in a shallow depth of material, and the load comes back out with moving air rather than with a new part. If there is a compressed-air line in the garage, or a reliable one within reach, this is an easy ownership. If there is not, and the truthful answer is that the panel would simply stay in the bike between annual services, then the standard weave is the better buy and this page has done its job by saying so.
Key Features
- Dry polyester special nonwoven with a filtration rating of 7 microns
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the standard weave of the same airbox
- Drawn up for sand, unmade roads and agricultural dust rather than daily tarmac
- Same frame and sealing face as the series panel: airbox untouched, mapping untouched
- About twice the filtering area of a conventional performance element
- Cleaned with air and refitted; two years of warranty from the date of purchase
What this element assumes you have
An air line, ten unhurried minutes, and somewhere clean to work. A spare panel helps more than people expect: a washed filter has to be bone dry before it goes back, and drying is the step that cannot be hurried, so keeping the original element means the bike is never off the road. Water with a trace of mild detergent is the fallback when air alone will not do. None of this is difficult, but all of it is yours — nobody sends a reminder, and a fine mat left in place indefinitely is worse than a coarse one serviced on time.
What 7 microns costs, and when it pays
560 against 5,050 l/m²/sec is the entire exchange, stated in the manufacturer’s own figures. Retention and throughput sit at opposite ends of one lever, so more of the first means less of the second: this is not a better filter than the road weave, it is a different one. It pays on a TRK 502 that spends real time on gravel, forest tracks and dry farm roads, where the air carries what the standard cloth was never drawn to stop. It does not pay in commuting, and it adds nothing anywhere: a drop-in element will not make a standard TRK 502 noticeably stronger.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air first, always from the clean side, played slowly across the pleats so the dirt is pushed back out rather than deeper in; a fine nonwoven rewards patience more than a coarse weave does. Residue that stays put comes away under lukewarm water with a little mild washing-up liquid and a long rinse. Then ambient air only: heat guns, radiators and flames ruin the material outright. The SM211T12 is refitted dry, with no oil and no treatment of any kind, and its maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab on this page.
