Racing media are specified for a working week in which the airbox is opened constantly. Elements come out between sessions, get blown through and go straight back in, and the whole point of a dry cloth is that this can happen again and again without anything being bought. A scooter is the vehicle least likely to be treated that way. Most ADV350 airboxes will be opened by somebody other than their owner, on a date set by a service book, and that bears on this listing more heavily than any figure on the media sheet.

The routine this cloth assumes

A racing medium is built around frequent handling and rewards it. Blown through often, it runs at a known condition all season; left alone for a year, it is simply a wider aperture doing its work quietly in the background. Nothing about that is a defect. It is what the specification was written for, and it explains why the same cloth appears on machines whose owners open an airbox more often than they check tyre pressures. A scooter's intake, sitting behind bodywork and under a seat, sees the opposite kind of attention.

If it is going to be yours anyway

The honest case runs like this. If you service the ADV350 yourself and want the best-made element built for its housing, the SM222S F1-85 is that element and it will fit without a single change to the machine. It will not make the scooter quicker, because an insert filter does not make a standard machine noticeably stronger, and the five extra microns of aperture apply every hour the engine runs rather than only on the good days. If a dealer does your servicing, ask that the element is cleaned and refitted rather than binned — it is specified to last as long as the scooter, and that only happens if somebody lets it.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air held to the clean face and worked outward is the routine, and the direction is not a detail: dirt driven the other way is pushed further into the cloth. Where more has settled than air will take, lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent do the rest, rinsed until the water is clear. Drying is done in open air alone, because heat is what polyester fails at first and a warped element never seals properly again. It goes back dry, with nothing sprayed on.
