The Catalysts Are in the Y Pipe

This is the detail that makes the article what it is. Rather than leaving the standard catalytic section in place and hanging a silencer off it, Spark builds its own catalysts into the Y pipe of the kit.

The result is a complete replacement of the section behind the header that still meets the emissions rules the motorcycle was approved to. Spark states this plainly: the homologated version complies with the regulations governing exhaust emissions.

Low Mounting

The 821 was sold with the exhaust routed either low or high, and Spark builds for both. This kit is the low-mount version — the silencer sits along the flank rather than under the tail.

If the motorcycle has the high-passage exhaust instead, this kit is not the one; that is a different article, and the plate holder GDUPT12I belongs to that configuration.

A Motorcycle Ten Years On

The Hypermotard 821 and Hyperstrada left production in 2015. An owner buying an exhaust for one now is not chasing a lap time — they are keeping a bike they like on the road, and an approved article is worth more in that situation than a loud one.

That is the case for this kit over a racing system: the motorcycle keeps its papers, the inspection is not a conversation, and the sound changes anyway.

Titanium or Carbon

The same kit is offered with a carbon-cased silencer as GDU1804COM at 1.130 euro. A hundred and seven euro separates them, and nothing else does — the pipe, the catalysts, the mounting and the approval are identical.

Titanium is the plainer of the two and the one that changes colour at the outlet over a few thousand kilometres. Carbon stays black.

The Silencer Alone

Spark also sells the silencer on its own, as a spare part: GDU1804STOM in titanium at 566 euro and GDU1804SCOM in carbon at 697. Those fit onto a Spark pipe that is already on the bike; they are not a kit and they do not include the Y section.

Buying the kit and buying pipe plus silencer separately are not the same transaction. If the bike is standard, the kit is the article.
