DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 059 closes the PAIR passages on the CB1000R's head, across both generations of the model.
Key Features
- Honda CB1000R (2008–2024)
- Machined block-off cover for the PAIR ports
- Sealed with its own gasket
- Fully reversible to standard
Sixteen Years, One Cover
Honda changed the CB1000R's styling completely in 2018 and left the cylinder head's secondary air arrangement alone. One plate therefore covers both generations.
What Is Being Blanked
Two small passages that carry fresh air from a reed valve into the exhaust ports. They exist to reduce measured emissions and they do nothing for the engine.
Sealed Properly
The cover comes with its own gasket. Anything improvised next to an exhaust port hardens, shrinks and eventually leaks, usually at the least convenient moment.
A Detuned Fireblade
The original CB1000R took the 2007 Fireblade's engine and softened it for the road. Honda has been reusing that motor in naked bikes for the better part of two decades.
The Overrun Goes Quiet
Removing the air supply removes the popping that comes with it. On a naked bike with no bodywork to muffle anything, that difference is more noticeable than on a faired machine.
Honest Fuelling
The oxygen sensor stops reading air that never went through the combustion chamber, which matters to anybody putting the bike on a dyno afterwards.
Emissions Hardware
Taking it off puts the motorcycle outside its approval. That makes this a track part in most jurisdictions and there is no point pretending otherwise.
Cut From Solid
A machined plate stays flat under heat where a stamped one moves. The sealing face is the entire job and it is worth doing properly.
Reversible
The factory cover refits with its original gasket. Nothing about the head is altered in the meantime.
A Hundred and Forty-Five Horsepower
The later CB1000R makes it from a detuned Fireblade four, which is more than enough in a chassis with no fairing and upright bars. Honda has been recycling this engine through naked bikes for close to two decades and it has never stopped being the best thing about them.
