The Ténéré 700 is the least likely motorcycle in this catalogue to see a start line, and one of the more likely to see a riverbed. That changes the argument for deleting the ignition barrel: on a T7 it is less about grams and more about having one less thing on the yoke that can fill with dust, water and grit. JP KS YA003 fits.
Key Features
- For the Ténéré 700 and Ténéré 700 World Raid, 2019 through 2024
- Replaces the ignition block, barrel and key
- Around 350 g saved high on the chassis
- IP69K-sealed push button — the highest ingress class in the IEC scale
- Solid Ergal housing in black, blue or titanium anodising
- Key Box included for the Yamaha immobiliser
Sealing Beats Weight Here
A lock cylinder is an open hole with springs and wafers in it, pointed at the sky. On a bike that spends its life in dust and water crossings, that is a maintenance item waiting to happen. IP69K covers close-range cleaning with 80 °C water at 100 bar — a considerably harder test than a hose after a green-lane weekend, and a genuinely better standard than the barrel it replaces.
World Raid Included
The World Raid carries a different tank, different suspension and a different seat, but Yamaha left the ignition mounting alone. The same part number covers both, so a standard T7 that later becomes a World Raid does not need a new switch.
A Word of Caution for Adventure Riders
This part is sold for closed-circuit and competition use, and it is not road legal — which is a more pointed consideration on a Ténéré than on a track bike, because a T7 is bought to be ridden to places. Fitting it makes a road-registered machine non-compliant. That is worth weighing before ordering rather than after.
