DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP KS YA003 swaps the MT-07's lock barrel for a machined switch, which is the point at which a motorcycle stops being something you can park in a street.
Key Features
- Yamaha MT-07 (2014–2020)
- Replaces the original ignition block, key and lock
- Around 350 g off the top yoke
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal
- IP69K sealed push button
- Plug-and-play on the motorcycle's own connector
The Sensible One
Yamaha's parallel twin roadster sells in enormous numbers and gets modified more than almost anything else, which is why parts like this exist for it at all.
Cut From Solid
Ergal machined rather than moulded, which is why the body survives the knocks a top yoke collects over a season of being wheeled about.
The Colours
Black as standard, with blue, red and titanium anodising on the numbers that offer them. The finish is the only choice to make.
Weight Against Money
Three hundred and fifty grams is not cheap by the gram. Owners buy this for the keyless operation as much as for the scales.
Race Regulations
Championships differ on how the engine has to be stoppable and where the control must sit. Read the rulebook before the order rather than after it.
A Part for a Specific Situation
Machines that live between a van and a garage, are started by whoever is nearest and never spend a night in a street. That is the whole market for this.
Transponders
If the key talks to the engine controller, the aerial around the barrel is part of the starting circuit. Establish that before ordering, because the fix is separate.
Why the Lock Is Last to Go
Because it still works, and because removing it means dealing with the wiring rather than undoing a bracket. This part is what makes that step short.
Corrosion
Aluminium anodised properly outlasts a steel barrel in salt air by a long way. That is a side effect rather than a selling point.
The Case on an Older Machine
Barrels seize, keys wear thin and the switch pack behind them eventually reads intermittently. On a motorcycle already heading for a circuit, that failure is the moment to change approach rather than to buy another lock.
