DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 002 handles both halves of removing the SuperSport 939's canister: the hardware that comes off and the purge valve circuit that has to be answered afterwards.
Key Features
- Ducati SuperSport 939 (2017–2020)
- Removes the charcoal canister, its valve and its hoses
- Vents the fuel tank through a proper fitting
- Answers the purge valve circuit
- Frees the space the canister occupied
- Standard parts refit at any time
Nine Hundred and Thirty-Seven Cubic Centimetres
The Testastretta 11 degree twin making a hundred and thirteen horsepower, in a faired chassis aimed at riders who wanted a sports bike they could live with.
A Monitored Purge Valve
The solenoid that meters stored vapour into the inlet tract is checked electrically. Unplugging it alone writes a fault, so the circuit is completed rather than abandoned.
The Advice Nobody Gets
Stop at the click. It is the most effective thing an owner can do to keep an evaporative system alive and it is never mentioned at handover.
An Older Bike, a Spent Bed
On anything past a decade the carbon has almost certainly stopped absorbing, which makes the assembly dead weight in the most literal sense.
Keep Everything Together
Vessel, bracket, hoses, clips and valve in one labelled box. The refit is then an hour rather than an archaeology exercise in a cold garage.
Track Preparation Removes It Early
Alongside the mirrors, the plate hanger and the lights. It exists for the road and the motorcycle is no longer on one.
Where the Weight Matters
A kilogram and a half is nothing on a set of scales and something on a motorcycle, because the vessel sits high. Mass in that position resists direction changes more than the same mass low in the frame.
What the Canister Actually Does
It holds activated charcoal that absorbs fuel vapour from the tank while the motorcycle stands, then releases it into the intake to be burned once the engine is running and warm. It exists to stop hydrocarbons evaporating into the air in a car park, which is a genuine environmental purpose and has nothing to do with how the engine runs.
Doing It With the Tank Off
The tank has to come off anyway to reach the upper hoses, and with it out of the way the whole system is visible at once. Photographing the routing before anything is disconnected takes a minute and saves an argument with yourself later about which line went where.
