DescriptionThe whole story▼
Scrutineering will look at this panel before it looks at anything else on the bike. Circuit regulations across Europe require the lower fairing to retain the engine's oil rather than let it out onto the racing line, and a pan that does not hold a measured volume does not pass. CY20220 is Carbonin's answer for the R9: a deep carbon section shaped around the 890 triple's sump and header run.
Key Features
- Closed containment profile built to the oil-retention requirement common to circuit regulations
- Moulded around the CP3 triple's sump line and exhaust routing rather than trimmed to clear it
- Carbon laminate with a prepreg inner face, autoclave cured
- Carried by the IN2001Y and IN2002Y brackets, which are ordered separately
- Unlacquered buffed weave, ready for paint
A Triple Is Not a Four
The packaging under an inline-three differs from an inline-four in a way that matters here: three headers converge into a narrower collector, and the space they occupy sits further to one side. A belly pan drawn for a four and adapted would either foul the collector or leave a gap where the containment volume should be. This one is moulded for the R9's own geometry, which is also why it cannot be borrowed from another model in the range.
Access and Servicing
The pan comes off on its brackets without disturbing the flanks, so an oil check between sessions does not turn into a strip-down. Worth doing at the same time: look at the inside of the pan. Oil weeping onto it is the earliest warning a rider gets, and it is only visible if someone turns the panel over.
Fitment
