DescriptionThe whole story▼
Both gains land at exactly 5,350 rpm — 1.3 PS and 1.9 Nm. On a 900 cc parallel twin with a 270-degree crank, deliberately built to make its torque low and stop pulling early, that is the entire useful part of the rev range.
Key Features
- 4.3 kg against the standard 6.02 kg: 1.7 kg and 28.6 per cent less
- 1.3 PS (1.0 kW) and 1.9 Nm, both measured at 5,350 rpm
- A pair of black-coated silencers with titanium outer sleeves
- Sixty minutes to fit, no remapping required
- Removable noise insert supplied
- EC and ECE type approved
Tuned to a Modern Classic
The Street Twin was Triumph's smallest Bonneville: 900 cc, 65 PS, torque delivered from just off idle and a redline that arrives early by modern standards. An exhaust that added power at 9,000 rpm would be a waste on it, because the engine is not designed to be there.
Adding 1.9 Nm at 5,350 rpm instead is the correct answer for how the bike is actually ridden — in top gear on a back road, at exactly that speed.
Black, Because of What It Sits Next To
The Street Twin's finish is deliberately restrained: brushed metal, black engine cases, minimal chrome. A pair of polished silencers would fight that. The black coating over the titanium keeps the sleeves in the same visual register as the rest of the motorcycle, and it hides heat discolouration that a bare finish would show within a season.
An Hour, Because There Are Two
Akrapovic quotes 60 minutes. That is longer than a single-silencer bike needs, because both units come off and both go on, and on a twin-exit motorcycle they have to align with each other as well as with the frame. The removable noise insert is supplied, so the sound can be kept close to standard or opened up with one bolt.
Why the Fitment Ends in 2020
Triumph renamed the Street Twin to the Speed Twin 900 for 2021 and revised the bike at the same time. This part covers the Street Twin years, 2016 to 2020, and does not carry over to the renamed machine. If your bike is a Speed Twin 900, ask us and we will check what exists for it rather than assume the badge change was cosmetic.
The 900 and the 1200 Take Different Parts
Triumph's modern classic range runs two engines that look closely related in photographs: the 900 cc twin in the Street Twin and the 1,200 cc twin in the Bonneville T120, Speed Twin 1200 and Thruxton. They are different sizes with different exhaust mountings, and the silencers are not interchangeable.
This is the 900 part. For the 1,200 cc bikes of the same era, S-T12SO2-HCQTBL is the corresponding pair.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-T9SO2-HCQTBL covers the Triumph Street Twin from model year 2016 through 2020 and is supplied as a pair.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencers are legal replacement parts for road use in the European Union.
