DescriptionThe whole story▼
A complete exhaust system that gains three horsepower and gets quieter at the same time is not the usual trade. The Akrapovic Racing Line (Titanium) S-Y9R17-HAPT for the Yamaha R9 lifts peak output from 114.4 PS to 117.4 PS at 10,000 rpm and adds 2.6 Nm at 9,500 rpm, while measuring 93.3 dB against the standard bike's 95.5 dB — 2.2 dB down. It manages that because the catalytic converter is built into the system rather than deleted from it, which is also why the whole thing carries EC and ECE type approval to Euro 5+.
Key Features
- Complete system: stainless steel headers, link pipe and pre-muffler, titanium muffler outer sleeve and end cap
- 3.0 PS (2.2 kW) more at 10,000 rpm and 2.6 Nm more at 9,500 rpm than the standard R9, measured on the Akrapovic in-house dyno
- 2.2 dB quieter than standard at 5,000 rpm, with the catalytic converter integrated into the system
- Pre-muffler tucked under the body and hidden behind the lower fairings, with the muffler exiting on the right for a Supersport-paddock silhouette
- Aluminium muffler bracket supplied in the box
- EC and ECE type approved and Euro 5+ compliant, so the bike stays road legal
- Plug-and-play — no remapping required despite being a full system
Design and Racing Origin
The R9 is Yamaha's CP3-powered supersport, and Akrapovic designed this system to follow the family look of its exhausts for the R6, R7 and R1 — the same visual language as the systems raced in the World Supersport Championship. That is not marketing garnish: the routing, with a flat pre-muffler carried low under the belly and out of the airstream, is the same idea used to keep mass low and centred on a race bike.
The muffler outer sleeve and end cap are titanium. The headers, link pipe and pre-muffler are stainless steel, which is the correct choice where the catalytic converter has to sit and where the thermal cycling is hardest, and it keeps the price of a full type-approved system within reach.
Performance and Sound
Akrapovic's engineers state that throttle response and the mid-to-upper rev range were the development targets, and the numbers follow that: the 3.0 PS gain lands at 10,000 rpm and the 2.6 Nm at 9,500 rpm, both in the part of the range an R9 rider actually uses on a circuit. The system ships with a noise insert, so the sound can be brought down further where a track imposes its own limit.
Fitting takes around an hour, because the headers come off with the system. There is no ECU work: the mapping the bike leaves the factory with is the mapping this exhaust was developed against.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y9R17-HAPT is built for the Yamaha R9 from model year 2024 through 2026. Akrapovic lists two further systems for this machine: the Evolution Line (Titanium) S-Y9E1-EET and a second Racing Line, S-Y9R21-EET, neither of which carries road approval. If the bike is registered and ridden on public roads, this is the one of the three that keeps it legal.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, Euro 5+ compliant. The certificates ship with the system and are available as downloads here. Because the catalytic converter is inside the system, no emissions equipment is removed and the check engine light stays off.
