DescriptionThe whole story▼
Six point six kilograms from one part. The standard header assembly on these machines weighs 8.94 kg; this titanium replacement weighs 2.34. That is 73.8 per cent, and it is the single largest weight reduction available anywhere in this catalogue.
Key Features
- 2.34 kg against the standard 8.94 kg: 6.6 kg and 73.8 per cent less
- 12.8 Nm more at 6,850 rpm and 6.8 PS at 7,100 rpm
- Made from the finest titanium throughout
- Turns an Akrapovic slip-on into a full system
- Also fits the standard first-fit Akrapovic silencer BMW supplies on some models
- ECU remapping is mandatory
- No road approval — circuit use only
What an Optional Header Is
A header is the second step, not the first. This part replaces the pipes between the cylinder head and the silencer, including the catalytic converter, and it only works if a suitable silencer is already fitted — an Akrapovic slip-on, or the first-fit Akrapovic unit BMW supplies on some versions.
On its own it is not a complete exhaust. Ordered together with a slip-on it turns that slip-on into a full system, which is where the 12.8 Nm comes from: a slip-on alone can only work on the last section of the path, a header opens the whole of it.
Three Hours on the Bench
Akrapovic quotes 180 minutes, the longest installation figure in this catalogue. The reason is what has to come apart: on an S 1000 XR the fairing, the radiator mounting and part of the cooling system are in the way before the header flanges are reachable, and the standard assembly comes out in pieces.
This is a workshop job with the bike on a lift. Budget the time or have it fitted.
Remapping Is Not Optional Here
Akrapovic states plainly that ECU remapping is mandatory for correct performance, throttle response and durability. Removing the catalytic converter changes what the lambda sensors see, and running the engine on the standard map afterwards is neither good for the numbers nor for the engine.
Budget for the remap alongside the part. A header fitted without one is a header working against the motorcycle.
S and M Take the Same Header
BMW's M badge on the 1000 R and 1000 XR brings carbon wheels, a different suspension package and more electronics, but the engine architecture and the exhaust route are shared with the S versions. One header covers all four.
What differs is the starting point. An M 1000 R already makes more than an S 1000 R, so the measured 6.8 PS quoted here — taken on the S — should be read as the character of the change rather than a guarantee for every variant.
Fitment and Compatibility
E-B10E5 covers the BMW S 1000 R and S 1000 XR from model year 2015 through 2020, and the M 1000 R and M 1000 XR. It requires an Akrapovic silencer to complete the system.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use. Fitting it to a road-registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility.
