DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nine point one horsepower. That is what Akrapovic records for this header on an Africa Twin that leaves the factory with 92.6, and it is close to a ten per cent gain from a part that costs less than most slip-ons. Headers rarely do that. This one does because Honda's standard collector carries the catalytic converter and chokes the engine to meet Euro 5+.
Key Features
- 101.7 PS with the matching slip-on, up from 92.6 standard
- 108.3 Nm, gaining 6.2 at 6,000 rpm
- 2.12 kg where the standard header assembly weighs 4.7
- Finished stainless steel throughout
- Compatible with Honda's own centre stand and front side pipe kit
- Sixty minutes to fit; remapping recommended
- Closed course competition use only
It Does Not Work Alone
Akrapovic designed this header for Africa Twins that already wear the Slip-On Line. For a 2024 or later machine that is S-H11SO4-HAFT. Fitted to a standard exhaust the header has nothing sensible to connect to, and the figures on this page describe the pair working together.
Budget for both. Bought separately over two seasons that is fine; bought as a surprise it is not.
The Centre Stand Stays
Akrapovic states that this product is compatible with the original Honda centre stand and the front side pipe kit. On an adventure bike that sentence carries real weight — a centre stand is how the rear wheel comes out at the side of a road, and plenty of aftermarket exhausts quietly make it unusable.
Anyone who tours on an Africa Twin should check that line on every exhaust they consider. Here it is confirmed.
Two and a Half Kilograms of Converter
4.7 kg standard down to 2.12. The difference is almost entirely the catalytic converter and its heat shielding, which sit low and forward on the engine. Taking 2.58 kg out of there lowers the centre of gravity of a tall motorcycle at the point where a tall motorcycle needs it most.
The Warning Light Is Expected
Akrapovic does not hedge on this one. On Euro 5+ machines with two lambda sensors, the engine check light will appear once the ECU registers that the catalytic converter's readings have changed. Not may — will.
That is a consequence of removing the converter rather than a fault in the part, and it is why remapping is worth doing even though Akrapovic calls it recommended rather than mandatory.
Recommended, Not Required
The distinction matters. Some systems in this catalogue will not run properly without a remap and Akrapovic says so outright. Here the wording is that remapping is recommended for perfect performance, throttle response and durability. The bike will run without it; it will run better with it.
Which Africa Twin
This part number covers the standard CRF1100L Africa Twin from 2024. The taller Adventure Sports version has its own header, E-H11R2, because the two machines route their exhausts differently around different frames.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
