DescriptionThe whole story▼
Enduro and trail events are often held on forestry land, and once the timber harvesters have been through, the tracks change character. Heavy machines leave deep ruts with steep walls, filled with water and churned clay, and riding them on a Yamaha WR250R is a test of clutch control more than of power. Here the C7160 comes in: Accossato's folding clutch lever for the WR250R of 2008 to 2020, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a long blade for four fingers that can fold forward on its joint if the bike goes down on the left.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha WR250R, 2008 to 2020
- Fits the original clutch perch in place of the stock lever
- Long blade, sized for four fingers
- Folding joint: the blade can swing forward instead of breaking
- Machined from Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
- Made in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or green; dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use only
Construction and Material Quality
Ergal 7075 belongs to the 7000 series of aluminium alloys, the strongest family in everyday use, and Accossato machines the C7160 from a solid block of it in Italy. The company's aim is a lever that combines strength and reliability with low weight. The finished lever is in two parts, a dark base that holds the pivot and a blade in one of four colours, linked by a joint that lets the blade fold. The blade is long enough for four fingers, which is how Accossato designs its off-road clutch levers.
Harvester Ruts
A harvester rut is nothing like a motocross rut. It is wider, deeper and less predictable, often with a hump of soft clay in the middle and roots exposed along its edges. Riders learn to choose: ride in the rut and let it steer the bike, or ride the crown between the ruts and keep the wheels out of trouble. Either way, the clutch does much of the work. In deep, wet clay the WR250R has to be kept moving at a steady pace, and the rider feathers the lever to keep the rear tyre biting rather than digging itself into a hole, with the engine kept in the range where it pulls cleanly.
When a wheel slips off the crown into the rut, the bike tends to topple sideways, sometimes pinned with its lever pressed into the rut wall. If it lands on its left, the C7160's blade can fold away forwards at the joint instead of snapping, which gives you a chance of hauling the WR250R out with the clutch lever intact. Getting a bike out of a deep rut takes enough effort without a broken clutch to contend with. The joint does not make the lever immune to damage, and a hard landing can still finish it, but it tilts the odds in your favour when the ground is at its most awkward.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Yamaha WR250R, Accossato's list gives the model years 2008 to 2020; the C7160 goes onto the original clutch perch. On the right, the B8161 folding brake lever covers the same years in black or blue. The clutch lever adds gold and green, so black or blue is the way to match both sides.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the C7160. Although the WR250R is registered for road use, it is not approved for public roads with this lever fitted; the part is sold for off-road riding.
