DescriptionThe whole story▼

The K 1600 GTL is BMW's luxury tourer: the six-cylinder engine of the GT, combined with a top case and a backrest for the passenger as standard. It is a bike built for two, and riding two-up changes what a good stop looks like. Accossato's EDB001 replaces the front brake lever of the K 1600 GTL of 2011 to 2016 on the original master cylinder, and its adjustable reach provides the fine control that smooth braking needs.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the BMW K 1600 GTL, listed 2011 to 2016
  • Fits the GTL's original master cylinder
  • Adjustable distance to the grip
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in several colours
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
  • Hub in black, blade in seven colours
  • Fixed, one-piece blade

Construction and Material Quality

The part of the EDB001 you touch most is the outer section of the blade, and that is where CNC machining pays off: the profile is even and the edges are cleanly finished, so the lever feels the same under every finger. The blade is anodised in the colour you choose, and the hub, which contains the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is always black. As a fixed lever it has no hinge part way along, so the pressure you apply goes directly into the master cylinder, which is what fine control depends on.

No Knocking Helmets

Every passenger knows the moment: the rider brakes a little too sharply, the passenger slides forward, and two helmets knock together. It is harmless, but it tells the person behind you that they are not being carried as smoothly as they could be. On the K 1600 GTL, avoiding it comes down to the beginning and the end of each stop. At the start, squeeze gently for a moment so your passenger feels the deceleration coming and braces against the footrests; then build the pressure steadily. At the end, ease off the lever just before the bike comes to a standstill, so the front rises gently instead of rocking back. Both depend on fine control in the first and last part of the lever's travel, and fine control comes from fingers that are relaxed, not stretched. Set the EDB001's reach with that in mind, and your passenger on the GTL will notice the difference before you do.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the EDB001 for the K 1600 GTL from 2011 to 2016, where it mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever. The later K 1600 GTL of 2017 to 2019 has a different brake lever in the list, the EDB077, and for the clutch of the earlier bikes Accossato names the ESB002.

Road Approval

There is no documented German ABE for this lever; it is sold for track use.
