Sprint Filter publishes a table of media, and the temptation with any table is to read across it. A retention percentage from one row, a flow figure from another, a fibre dimension from a third, all quietly attached to whichever element happens to be in the basket. Worth resisting — and worth being told which numbers really belong to the SM277P14.

Which numbers belong where

The percentages that circulate about these filters come from a comparison run on the woven polyester: 93.13 % of 100-micron particles retained by the P08, against 76.42 % for a four-layer oiled cotton element on the same test. Those describe the P08. There is no equivalent published percentage for the nonwoven, so none is quoted here and none should be inferred by scaling one figure off another. What is documented for this medium is the pair above, and that pair is what the decision rests on.

The comparison you can actually make

It is the one inside this airbox. Set against the P08 in the same housing, the P14 exchanges 80 microns for 14, and 5,050 litres per square metre per second for 1,800: more held back, less passed through, both stated by the manufacturer. Set against the paper panel that came out, it swaps a part with a replacement interval for a part with a cleaning procedure. What neither comparison supports is a power claim — a drop-in element does not make a standard ZT 350-X faster, and a fine medium is the one place in the range where you knowingly buy less flow.

Care and cleaning

The routine is compressed air from the clean side outward, sending the load away by the route it arrived on. Anything greasy comes free under lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water is clear.
