The name on this page appears twice in the Sprint Filter catalogue. One Continental GT is a 535 cm³ machine listed up to 2018; the other is the 650 that runs from 2018 to 2026, and the two are served by different element numbers. The capacity is no safer as an identifier either: six Royal Enfield 650s appear in this range and they do not all share an airbox — three of them, this one among them, take the CM196S, while the remaining three have a number of their own. Model and year together are what pick the part.
Key Features
- One layer of dry woven polyester, never oiled at any point in its service life
- 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec of clean cloth
- Roughly twice the filtering area of other performance elements, inside the unmodified housing
- Comparison measurement: 93.13 % retention at 100 microns, where four-layer oiled cotton reached 76.42 %
- Direct replacement for the factory panel — airbox, ducting and mapping all stay as they are
- Washable and reusable, specified to last the motorcycle, covered for two years
Ordering by the number instead of the badge
None of this is pedantry about names. An airbox is a shape, and a shape does not read tank badges; two machines can wear the same script and take different elements, and two capacities written the same way can sit in separate housings. The routine that avoids all of it is short. Take the model and the year of registration, confirm both in the Fitment tab, then order the number rather than the description. Here that number holds across the whole 2018 to 2026 window, so the check is made once and not repeated at every service.
What the standard weave is for
It is the medium the price list files under road and track use, and it earns that by sitting in the middle of its own range rather than at either end. Finer cloth holds more and passes less; a more open cloth does the reverse. The honest limit is the one every intake part shares: a drop-in element will not make a standard 650 noticeably stronger. What it gives is a lower and, more usefully, a steadier resistance across an interval, and it turns a recurring purchase into a job with an air line.
Care and cleaning
The CM196S is cleaned dry and refitted dry. Compressed air on the clean side, worked outwards, lifts what the weave has caught on its face; nothing is soaked and nothing is coated. Where a deposit is oily rather than dusty, lukewarm water with a mild detergent and a full rinse will deal with it. Drying then has one rule and no exceptions: air only, never a heater, a hot-air gun or a flame. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, 2018 to 2026. Two further machines run on the same element: the Interceptor 650 across the identical period and the Bear 650 from 2025. Three motorcycles, one part number — confirm yours in the Fitment tab.
