The V7 II was the generation that quietly sorted things out: six speeds, the engine rotated in the frame, ABS and traction control fitted as standard. None of it altered the character, which is why these bikes tend to be kept rather than traded on. Keeping a motorcycle for a decade changes the arithmetic of servicing it, because you are no longer paying for one interval — you are paying for all of them. The Sprint Filter P08 PM138S is built for people doing that longer sum.
Key Features
- Woven polyester medium, run permanently dry with no coating of any kind
- Threads from ø 22 microns upwards, arranged to a measured 80-micron aperture
- On the order of twice the filtering surface of other performance elements
- Direct swap for the factory panel; the airbox and the mapping stay as they are
- Returned to service by cleaning, indefinitely, rather than replaced on schedule
- Two years of manufacturer cover from the date of sale
Count elements, not invoices
The honest way to state this is in parts rather than in money, which moves about and differs from one market to the next. Ten years of scheduled servicing on a V7 II means roughly ten paper panels: ten ordered, ten fitted, ten thrown away, each one doing its job slightly worse than the one before as it fills. The alternative is one panel, washed ten times, arriving back at its starting condition after each of them. Whatever a filter happens to cost over the next decade, the count is nine to nothing.
Ten years is also ten chances to get it wrong
There is a second column in that sum that owners forget. An oiled cotton element has to be re-treated after every wash, which is ten opportunities to apply too much and put a film where the sensor sits. A paper cartridge has to be sourced ten times, which is ten chances to be sold something that is nearly right. This panel has neither exposure. It goes back in dry, in the position Mandello designed for it, and the only judgement required of the owner is What the sum does not include is power. A panel in a standard box cannot supply any, and a listing that hints otherwise is selling a different thing.
Care and cleaning
Start with the compressor: air onto the clean face, pushing outwards, until the dirt stops coming. Where a season has left more than that, wash it through in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and keep rinsing while the water still discolours. Then let it dry in still room air, completely, and keep every heat source away from it — hot air and naked flame both damage the weave in ways an inspection will not catch. It is refitted dry, with no treatment. Sprint Filter's procedure is attached under Downloads.
