MT-Helmets KRE 2 PLUS FIM Racing #2 Pure A1 Full-Face Helmet – Gloss Carbon

This is the one a race organiser will let through scrutineering. The KRE 2 PLUS FIM Racing #2 sits at the top of MT's range on a full carbon shell, at a declared 1,250 g, carrying the FIM Racing Homologation FRHPhe-02 alongside ECE 22.06.

What FRHPhe-02 actually is

FIM homologation is not a second opinion on ECE. It is a separate programme run by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme for helmets used in its championships, and it tests things road approval does not: higher impact energies, oblique impacts measuring rotational acceleration, and shell rigidity under load.

FRHPhe-02 is the second phase of that programme and the current reference on circuit. It matters in exactly one situation and matters absolutely there: a marshal at scrutineering looks for the FIM sticker, and a helmet without it does not start — however expensive, however new, however good.

Check the label for your size

FIM homologation is granted per helmet, not per model name. Under FRHPhe-02 a manufacturer must homologate each shell size separately; sizes only travel together when they share one shell and differ by no more than 2 cm of head circumference in padding alone.

MT has not published a size-by-size FIM breakdown for this model, and the FIM's own register is not machine-readable. Before you enter a race, confirm the FIM label is on the helmet you actually receive in the size you actually ordered. We would rather send you to the sticker than guess on your behalf. For reference, the older KRE+ S carried FIM only in XS to L.

Full carbon — and what MT claims for it

The shell is carbon, not the TRIC tricomposite of the standard KRE 2 PLUS and not the FRC of the KRE 2. It is built on MT's patented MT-ULCS ultra-lightweight shell process.

MT presented this helmet as the lightest FIM-homologated helmet in the world at 1,250 g. That is the manufacturer's claim, made at launch, and we report it as a claim rather than a measurement — we have not weighed one, and "lightest in the world" is a moving target that nobody independently audits.

It looks exactly like the €200-cheaper one

MT ships the identical photography for this helmet and for the standard KRE 2 PLUS. We compared the official image sets file by file: every shared view is byte-for-byte the same picture. From the outside, at arm's length, these two helmets are the same object.

The difference is real and entirely invisible: full carbon instead of tricomposite, 1,250 g instead of 1,300 g, and the FIM FRHPhe-02 homologation instead of ECE alone. If you will never sign on at a circuit that demands FIM, the standard PLUS at €499.95 gives you the same helmet to look at and 50 g more to carry. Buy this one for the sticker and the shell, not for the photograph.

Four shell sizes

The PLUS platform is moulded in four separate outer shell sizes across six helmet sizes. On a race helmet that is not a comfort feature but an aerodynamic and inertial one: the shell stays proportionate to the head inside it, so a small rider is not carrying a large helmet's frontal area or its mass at the end of a lever.

MT-ESLS — the lock that also parks the visor

A double lock holds the visor closed against wind pressure and against a glancing knock, with a quick-open button that frees it in one movement and stops it at a defined anti-fog position.

On track that detent is what you use in the pit lane and on the sighting lap. It is also the difference between a visor you can crack one-handed at 60 km/h and one you have to fight.

MT-QVSS, MT-EVA and Pinlock® 120

Tool-free visor changes run on MT's patented MT-QVSS mechanism, with a metal insert carrying the load at the pivot. On a helmet that sees a clear visor on Saturday and a dark one on Sunday, that pivot does more work in a season than a road helmet's does in five years — metal there is why it still seats flush at the end of it.

The MT-EVA aperture is cut wide, which on a race helmet is read in the tuck: you look for the corner over the top of the visor, not through the middle. The visor takes Pinlock® 120 Max Vision, the clearest lens in the range.

MT has published no packing list for this model. Tear-off posts, a Pinlock lens, a spare dark visor and a helmet bag are all unconfirmed — assume none of them until MT says otherwise, and budget accordingly if you are building a track kit.

Airflow and the carbon spoiler

A chin intake and three upper intakes feed channels cut into the EPS that exhaust at the rear outlets, pulled through by the low-pressure zone behind the shell. The rear spoiler is a carbon part and deliberately compact — its job is keeping the wake attached so the helmet holds its line in another bike's turbulence, which is precisely where a race helmet earns it.

What even this helmet does not have

• No sun visor. Correct for a race helmet — a drop-down mechanism is mass in the shell and a hole in the EPS — but say goodbye to it if you also commute on this.
• No independent safety rating. FIM homologation is a pass/fail standard, not a score. SHARP has not tested the KRE 2 PLUS FIM, the KRE 2 PLUS, the KRE 2, the KRE+ or the KRE+ S; the three-star "MT KRE SV" on SHARP's list is an earlier, different helmet. No ADAC or Snell result exists.
• Double-D ring. Mandatory in racing, slow in winter gloves. That is the right trade here and the wrong one on a commuter.

Where it sits in our MT range

The KRE+ S is the interesting comparison: also carbon, also FIM, €230 cheaper — and 400 g heavier on the older FRHPhe-01 standard. If your championship still accepts FRHPhe-01 and your budget is the constraint, it is a real alternative. If it does not, it is not.

Servicing a helmet you actually use hard

Visor, cheek pads and lining are replaceable. The model launched in 2026, so the parts programme is still coming online — plan a spare dark visor into the first season rather than assuming one is on the shelf. The EPS liner cannot be replaced at all, and on a race helmet that matters twice: it crushes once, and a crash you walked away from still ends it.
