The R7 put the MT-07's twin into a sports chassis. The JP PD YA073 replaces its right-hand switch with milled Ergal on a universal clamp pattern.

Seventy-Three Horsepower and a Point
The R7 makes considerably less power than the R6 it nominally replaced, and Yamaha was entirely open about that. What it has instead is a torquey 689 cc twin, a much stiffer front end than the MT-07 and a price that put a proper sports bike back within reach.
Built for One-Make Racing
Yamaha designed the R7 with cup series in mind, and the grids filled quickly. That has produced a population of well-prepared machines and a healthy aftermarket, both of which benefit owners who never intend to race.
Where the Money Went
Into the chassis. Adjustable KYB forks, a stiffer frame and clip-ons below the yoke. Where it did not go is the switchgear, which is shared with cheaper Yamahas and looks it from the saddle.
Universal Clamp Geometry
The front brake is the most commonly upgraded component on an R7, both because the standard setup was built to a price and because cup regulations sometimes require better. The universal plate accepts either bolt arrangement.
A Bike Ridden on Both
R7s commute during the week and race at weekends, often the same machine. That double duty is hard on controls: winter mornings and pit lanes both, operated in gloves either way.
Four Anodised Finishes
Black, blue, red and titanium. Blue is the obvious match for Yamaha's own racing scheme; black keeps a track-prepared cockpit quiet.
Sealed and Milled
One block of Ergal 7075 with sealed contacts. No clipped joint to develop play under a twin's vibration and no moulded seam for water to enter during a wet session.
