DescriptionThe whole story▼
Engineered for riders who refuse to compromise between all-day comfort and genuine protection, the Dainese Wave 11 D1 AIR back protector delivers CE Category II Level 2 certification in a breathable, ergonomic package sized precisely for riders of 165–170 cm / 63.0–68.9 in. Whether you are clocking up motorway miles on a summer tour or pushing hard on track, it stays cool, stays put, and keeps your spine covered.
Key Features
- CE Category II certified to EN 1621.2/2014 Level 2 — the highest standard for motorcycle back protectors
- Aluminium honeycomb inner frame combined with Crash Absorb® foam absorbs and distributes impact energy across the entire back panel
- Perforated, wave-profile polypropylene outer shell maximises structural rigidity while channelling continuous airflow across the back
- Breathable polyester-mesh inner lining wicks moisture away and keeps the skin cool during extended rides
- Doubly adjustable lumbar strap and removable shoulder straps let you dial in a precise, secure fit to your body — not just your height
- Lumbar articulation joint allows natural flexion so the protector moves with you rather than against you
- Double-density thermoformed peripheral support structure maintains shape and position under load
Built for the Long Haul
The outer shell is moulded from perforated polypropylene in a deliberate wave pattern — a geometry chosen for two reasons. Structurally, the corrugations stiffen the panel without adding mass. Aerodynamically, the perforations create a channel effect that draws warm air away from the back even at moderate speeds. Underneath, the aluminium honeycomb frame gives the Crash Absorb® foam a rigid lattice to work against, so kinetic energy from an impact is spread laterally across the panel rather than transmitted as a concentrated spike to the spine.
The inner lining is cut from fine polyester mesh, the kind used in performance sportswear, chosen specifically because it dries rapidly and does not trap heat against the skin. Lumbar and shoulder straps are sewn from double-jersey fabric — soft enough to wear directly against a base layer for an entire day without chafing.
Ergonomics and Fit
Fit is where the Wave 11 D1 AIR genuinely earns its place in the Dainese lineup. The doubly adjustable lumbar strap means you can set both the height and the tension independently, so the protector sits centred on your spine regardless of whether you are upright on a tourer or tucked on a sportsbike. Removable shoulder straps provide additional location when needed; detach them entirely for a streamlined, lighter feel when the jacket's own retention is sufficient. The lumbar articulation joint — a pivot built into the lower section of the shell — allows the protector to follow the natural bend of your lumbar spine as you lean forward, eliminating the rigid, board-like sensation that makes cheaper back protectors uncomfortable after the first hour.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Wave 11 D1 AIR is a standalone back protector designed to be worn inside a compatible Dainese jacket or in a dedicated back-protector harness. The height designation of 165–170 cm / 63.0–68.9 in refers to rider stature. Two torso-girth sizes are available: M (chest/waist up to 89 cm / 35 in) and L (chest/waist 90 cm / 35.4 in and above). Always verify your jacket's back-pocket dimensions against Dainese's published fitment guide before ordering.
Warranty
The Wave 11 D1 AIR is covered by a 2-year Dainese manufacturer warranty against conformity defects. Valid claims entitle the owner to free repair or replacement parts in accordance with current Dainese warranty conditions.
