DescriptionThe whole story▼
A part bought to be quieter. Akrapovic built this link pipe with a resonator inside it specifically to bring the static noise level down at 5,500 rpm — the measurement most European circuits use to decide whether a motorcycle rides or goes home.
Key Features
- Built-in resonator that lowers the static noise level at 5,500 rpm
- Developed for closed-course competition circuits
- Output reaches 119.7 PS from a standard 114.4 at 9,500 rpm
- Torque climbs to 98.3 Nm from 91, at the same engine speed
- Stainless steel construction
- For use with the Racing Line (Titanium) S-Y9R21-EET
- No road approval — circuit use only
Seven Newton Metres
91 Nm standard, 98.3 fitted. That is the largest torque increase of any link pipe in this catalogue, and it is unusual for a part whose stated purpose is noise reduction — quieter normally means slower.
The reason is what it replaces: the standard section between the headers and the silencer on a Euro 5+ machine does most of the restriction, and a resonator is a far less restrictive way to control noise than a packed chamber.
The R9 Is New
Yamaha introduced the YZF-R9 for 2024, built around the 890 cc CP3 triple from the MT-09 in a full sportsbike chassis. It is aimed squarely at trackday riders and club racers, which is exactly the audience a track day link pipe exists for.
What It Needs
Akrapovic specifies this pipe for use with the Racing Line (Titanium) system S-Y9R21-EET. It is not a standalone part and does not work with the standard exhaust — it replaces a section of the race system, not of Yamaha's.
Sixty Minutes
The R9's mid-section sits under the engine behind the fairing lowers. An hour of workshop time with the bike on a stand, which is longer than the R6 equivalent takes because the R9 carries more bodywork.
Keep It in the Van
This is a part that goes on when the circuit's sound rule is strict and comes off again afterwards. Akrapovic designed it for exactly that use, and it belongs in the transporter alongside the tyre warmers rather than permanently on the motorcycle.
Static Noise at 5,500 rpm
Most European circuits measure sound at a fixed engine speed with the bike stationary, half a metre from the outlet. 5,500 rpm is the figure Akrapovic names, which suggests the pipe was developed against that specific test rather than against a general target.
The Largest Torque Gain of Any Link Pipe Here
7.3 Nm is more than any other link pipe in this catalogue delivers, including the titanium ones costing twice as much. It comes from replacing a Euro 5+ mid-section, which on a 2024 machine is doing more restricting than the equivalent part did five years ago.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
