DescriptionThe whole story▼
A part you buy to be quieter. That is unusual in this catalogue, and it is the whole point of this one: a link pipe with a resonator built into it, for circuits that turn bikes away at the noise meter.
Key Features
- Built-in resonator that lowers the noise level for track use
- For circuits where lower noise limits are enforced
- 4.87 kg against the standard 10.25 kg: 5.38 kg and 52.5 per cent less
- 7.6 PS more at 12,900 rpm and 5.1 Nm at 9,000 rpm
- Stainless steel construction
- Twenty minutes to fit — swap it for the session and swap back
- For use with the Evolution Line or Racing Line system
Why Quieter Is the Feature
A great many European circuits enforce a static or drive-by noise limit, and a full Akrapovic race system on an R6 will not always pass. The choice is then between not riding and putting the standard exhaust back on.
This pipe is the third option. It sits in the same place as the standard link pipe, carries a resonator, and brings the whole system inside the limit — while keeping the race exhaust on the bike.
Twenty Minutes Is the Design Brief
The short fitting time is not incidental. This is a part designed to go on in the paddock when the noise rule is strict and come off again afterwards, and Akrapovic sized the job accordingly.
Keep it in the van with the tyre warmers.
It Still Makes Power
Quieter does not mean slower here. Against the standard system the figures are 7.6 PS at 12,900 rpm and 5.1 Nm at 9,000 — an R6 revs to fourteen thousand, so both numbers land in the part of the range a rider on a circuit actually uses.
Which Systems It Fits
Akrapovic specifies this pipe for use with the muffler and header set from the Evolution Line S-Y6E9-APT or the Racing Line S-Y6R9-APT. It is not a standalone part and does not work with the standard exhaust.
Half the Weight of the Standard Section
10.25 kg is what Yamaha's original mid-section weighs on an R6 — an extraordinary figure on a 190 kg motorcycle, and almost all of it catalytic converter and pre-muffler casing. This pipe carries a resonator and still comes in at 4.87 kg.
So it is quieter than a straight race pipe and lighter than the standard part by more than five kilograms. That is an unusual pair of properties.
An R6 in 2026
Yamaha stopped selling the R6 for the road in Europe in 2021 and kept it as the R6 RACE, a track-only machine sold without lights or a number plate. Nearly every R6 still being ridden hard is a circuit bike, and circuit bikes are exactly what noise limits are aimed at.
Fitment and Compatibility
L-Y6SO4/TD/1 covers the Yamaha YZF-R6 and the R6 RACE from 2008 through 2026. Yamaha withdrew the R6 from road sale in Europe in 2021 and continued it as a track-only model, which is exactly the audience for this part.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
