DescriptionThe whole story

Kawasaki's Ninja 500 and Z500 arrived in 2024 under Euro 5+, the tighter standard that replaced Euro 5 on 1 January that year. This Akrapovic slip-on is certified to it — which is what makes it a legal upgrade for a bike that many riders buy on an A2 licence and cannot afford to put out of compliance.

Key Features

  • 2.8 kg against the standard 4.12 kg: 1.3 kg and 32 per cent less
  • Newly designed titanium muffler with an imprinted surface, which adds strength and durability rather than only appearance
  • Titanium outer sleeve, carbon fibre end cap, high-grade stainless steel link pipe, inner structure and heat shield
  • Certified to EC and ECE type approval under Euro 5+, the regulation in force from 2024
  • 0.4 PS at 8,750 rpm and 0.3 Nm at 5,000 rpm, measured against the standard system
  • Noise insert included, installation about 30 minutes with no remapping
  • Optional carbon heat shield and optional header available for a further step

Euro 5+ and Why It Is Named

Euro 5 was valid until 31 December 2023. From 2024 onward new machines and their replacement parts fall under Euro 5+, and a silencer certified only to the older standard is not a legal replacement on a bike homologated to the newer one. Akrapovic states the certification explicitly for this part, and so does this page — on an A2-class machine that will meet an inspection, that distinction is worth having in writing.

One consequence to know: the optional header is available and will add power and a racing tone, but fitting it invalidates the EC and ECE type approval of the silencer. On a road bike, the slip-on alone is the configuration that stays legal.

What 1.3 Kilograms Means Here

A Ninja 500 weighs 171 kg wet. Removing 1.3 kg from the silencer is close to one per cent of the whole motorcycle, and it comes off the highest and furthest-back point — the place where a rider learning to ride quickly notices weight most.

The measured performance gains are small and stated as measured: 0.4 PS and 0.3 Nm on a 44 PS parallel twin. The reasons to fit this are the weight, the finish and the sound.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-K5SO1-HRT covers the Kawasaki Ninja 500 and the Z500 from model year 2024 through 2026. Two optional parts are available separately: a carbon fibre heat shield P-HSK4SO5 and a stainless steel header E-K4R2.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval to Euro 5+, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. Fitted on its own, without the optional header, the silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
