DescriptionThe whole story▼
Exactly half. The standard silencer weighs 4.2 kg, this one weighs 2.1 kg, and the measurements behind it were taken on the A2-restricted Z900 — the 35 kW version that a large share of German riders own on a class-A2 licence. That matters, because most published exhaust figures come from the unrestricted bike and do not transfer.
Key Features
- 2.1 kg against the standard 4.2 kg — precisely half the weight
- Measured on the A2 version: 87.3 PS standard rising to 88.1 PS, with 1.1 Nm more torque at 6,500 rpm
- Compact shape drawn to suit the naked, sporty look of the Z900 rather than hang past the tail
- Hand-crafted carbon fibre body with an end cap in the same material
- EC and ECE type approved, so an A2 machine stays legal and stays restricted
- Noise insert included, installation about 30 minutes with no remapping
- Covers the full-power Z900 from 2017 to 2019 and the A2 version from 2018 to 2024
Why the A2 Figures Are the Ones Published
Akrapovic measured this system against a standard A2 Z900, and the numbers on this page are those measurements: 87.3 PS becoming 88.1 PS, 87.6 Nm becoming 88.7 Nm. A restricted engine responds differently to an exhaust than a full-power one, and quoting the unrestricted bike's gains would be misleading for the majority of buyers of this part.
The type approval is the second half of that. Fitting a non-approved exhaust to an A2 machine puts both the restriction certificate and the insurance in question. This one carries EC and ECE approval and changes neither.
Where the Two Kilograms Go
The Z900's standard silencer is a double-skinned steel unit sized to meet European noise limits on a 948 cc four. Replacing the body and end cap with hand-laid carbon fibre halves it, and all of that mass sits high and behind the rear axle — the position where weight most affects how quickly a naked bike changes direction.
Sound, and Being Able to Undo It
The removable noise insert is supplied with the silencer. Fitted, it holds the tone close to what an A2 rider wants for daily use and for a technical inspection; taken out, the four-cylinder is allowed to make the noise it was always capable of. Removing it is a single bolt.
Nothing else on the motorcycle changes. The header stays, the catalytic converter stays, the ECU is untouched and no remap is needed. The standard silencer goes back on in half an hour, which matters on a leased or financed machine that has to be handed back the way it arrived.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K9SO10-HZC covers the Kawasaki Z900 from model year 2017 through 2019 and the A2-restricted Z900 from 2018 through 2024. An optional carbon fibre heat shield, P-HSK9SO1, is available separately.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union and does not affect the A2 restriction.
