DescriptionThe whole story▼
Same engine, same dyno, same numbers — a different system at a lower price. Akrapovic measured the Racing Line and the Evolution Line on the same 250 Yamaha and published identical figures: 37.9 PS and 25.9 Nm. What separates them is construction and cost, not output.
Key Features
- Titanium Racing Line for the 2014 to 2019 Yamaha 250 four-strokes
- 37.9 PS at 12,400 rpm, identical to the Evolution Line
- Torque 25.9 Nm, the same as standard
- Around 215 euro below the Evolution Line on the list
- Covers the WR250F one year longer than the Evolution system, to 2019
Racing Line against Evolution Line
In the Akrapovic hierarchy the Evolution Line is the fuller build and the Racing Line the more direct one. On road bikes that usually shows up as a difference in materials or in the link pipe; here, on a 250 motocrosser, both are titanium and both measure the same.
Akrapovic does not publish a weight for the Racing Line, so we cannot tell you whether it is lighter, heavier or identical. We are not going to infer it from the Evolution Line's 3.5 kg — if the weight is what decides your purchase, ask us and we will put the question to Akrapovic.
One year more on the WR
The Racing Line covers the WR250F through 2019, where the Evolution system stops at 2018. For a 2019 WR both this system and S-Y2MET15-CIBNTA are listed, which is worth knowing before ordering.
Not for the road
Closed course competition only. No EC or ECE approval.
What a Racing Line usually is
Across the Akrapovic range the Racing Line normally sits below the Evolution Line: fewer titanium components, a simpler link pipe, sometimes a steel header. On road bikes the difference shows in the weight and occasionally in the sound.
On this 250 motocrosser the two systems measure identically, and Akrapovic does not publish a weight for the Racing Line at all. So the honest statement is that the difference between them is a construction difference we cannot quantify from the manufacturer's own data — not a performance difference, because there is none.
The price gap
Around 215 euro on the list, which is close to twenty per cent. For a rider who wants the Akrapovic build on a bike of this age, that is a meaningful sum, and the measured output is the same.
For a rider building a machine to keep, the Evolution Line is the fuller specification. Both are legitimate answers, and the choice is a budget question rather than a technical one.
Covers the WR250F to 2019
The one place where this system covers more than the Evolution Line is the WR250F, which runs to 2019 here against 2018 there. A 2019 WR owner has both articles available and should choose on price and specification rather than on fit.
What is not published
No weight, no material breakdown and no decibel figure for this article. Akrapovic publishes the dyno result and the fitment and nothing further, and we have not filled the rest in from the Evolution Line beside it.
Article number
Akrapovic lists this system as S-Y2MR15-CIBNTA. It is the least expensive complete system for a Yamaha 250 in this catalogue.
